Mike Rivard & Dave Tronzo
An evening of exciting improvised duos from two internationally-acclaimed musicians.
Composer/bassist Mike Rivard has brought his skills on acoustic and electric bass to a diverse roster of artists including John Medeski, Billy Martin, Hassan Hakmoun, Ryan Montbleau, Either/Orchestra, Jonatha Brooke, Aimee Mann, Mark Sandman & Morphine, and many others. He leads the award-winning dub-jazz-trance group Club d'Elf, recipient of the Boston Music Award in 2007 for Outstanding Jazz Act. He performs with Indo-jazz group Natraj, the Boston Pops Orchestra, as well as Broadway tours of Wicked, Disney's The Lion King, The Color Purple, Mary Poppins & many others. Rivard has a passion for Moroccan trance music, particularly that of the Gnawa and Amazigh (Berber) people of the Atlas mountains, becoming one of the few non-Moroccans to master the sintir, a camel-skin covered bass lute. In 2009 he served as musical ambassador during a cultural exchange to Morocco, and has since led workshops on the sintir and Gnawa music at Berklee, South Shore Conservatory, Northeastern University and Wellesley College.
