A journey back to the days when shopping was more than just a few clicks of a mouse and tiny things arriving in oversized cardboard boxes! In the days where brick and mortar was the way, department stores were royalty, and none was more beloved and iconic than Filene’s Basement in Boston. Shopping became not just a way to buy goods, but a social event, where the people behind the counter were as much a part of the experience as trying on a new dress!
“Voices From the Basement” premiered on WGBH in 2010 and was re-broadcast on Thanksgiving 2011. It was one of The Charles River Museum’s most popular screenings back in 2017. “Voices” filmmakers Michael Bavaro and Dr. Susan Edbril are allowing us to give this holiday gift to you a trip back to those days at Downtown Crossing, where a journey down the stairs brought deals and bargains often worth fighting for!
But, like that coat on clearance that everyone wants, supplies are limited! So watch it now before the rack goes empty!
